Eglin AFB Campus Challenge
Senior Design Opportunity
BYU has been invited to participate in the Eglin Air Force
Base Campus Challenge. The campus challenge is a competition between eight
universities to produce the best design and technology development roadmap for
a key technical challenge of interest to the Air Force. This year, the
challenge problem is
Miniature
Self-Deploying Systems in Cluttered/Confined Environments.
We will be competing against teams from the following
universities: Georgia Tech, Ohio University, University of Colorado-Boulder, University
of Florida, Florida State University, University of West Florida, and
University of Alabama-Huntsville. The top two universities will receive
$150,000 to continue work on the project, which could lead to MS projects for
interested students.
We need creative, hardworking, and technically skilled
individuals to work on this project.
The campus challenge is open to seniors in Electrical and
Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Chemical
Engineering, and Computer Science. For ECE and ME majors, the campus
challenge will replace the quadrotor senior design project.
In Fall 2009 we will research the challenge problem and
generate a paper design for a compelling solution. In Winter 2010 we will
prototype portions of the proposed design, which we anticipate will include flying
robotic systems.
To participate, students should enroll in ECE 493R for 3
credit hours each in Fall 2009 and Winter 2010.
Students interested in the project should talk to one of the
following faculty members:
